Do you really know what Protein is?

Do you really know what Protein is?

Proteins are molecules formed by the union of several amino acids. There are 20 different amino acids that can be combined in countless ways, creating unique and distinct proteins.

These are divided into essential amino acids, which our body cannot synthesize and must obtain through food or supplementation, and non-essential amino acids, which can be produced by the body.
In addition to being one of the body's three sources of fuel, protein plays a constructive and regulatory role, as itís the largest constituent of tissues essential to the maintenance of the human body, being essentially concentrated in the muscles.

Animal protein, such as meat, fish, eggs and milk has all the essential amino acids, but that doesnít mean that vegetable protein, such as legumes, (beans, chickpeas, peas or lentils), cereals, quinoa, hemp seeds, soybeans,Ö should be excluded. Since the bioavailability of vegetable protein isnít the same as that of animal origin, itís necessary to take some aspects into account, namely in vegetarians or vegans.

In athletes, protein becomes one of the fundamental nutrients, as it plays a crucial role in the synthesis and maintenance of muscle mass, in the recovery of micro-lesions caused by training and in the supply of energy in training of great intensity and strength. In addition, itís essential to prevent muscle catabolism (damaged muscle). In this way, all practitioners of regular exercise need to ingest a higher dose of protein than those who donít exercise, about 1.2 to 2.0g per kg of weight / day, either through food or supplements.

One of the protein supplements, particularly known in the world of sports nutrition, is Whey Protein, a high quality supplement, widely used to promote the increase of muscle mass.

One such example is Rocksprint's Whey Prime: in addition to giving you the best protein, it combines the action of Concentrated and Isolated Whey protein with Micellar Casein and Creatine so that the synthesis of muscle mass lasts over time.

Main benefits of Whey Prime protein:

- High protein concentration: facilitates the increase of muscle mass and hypertrophy;
- Enriched with Creatine: provides more strength and energy for high intensity workouts;
- Contains Digezymeô: facilitates digestion and absorption to nourish the muscle;
- Good Protein / Carbohydrate ratio: by stimulating the release of insulin by the pancreas, carbohydrates will maximize the absorption of protein;
- Delicious flavours: to take care of your muscles with a very pleasant shake.

Protein consumption must be well distributed throughout the day, with no consensus for its consumption before or after training. By eating protein sources (food or supplements) at each meal, you end up ensuring the amount needed to train and recover post-workout.

Any time of taking protein is beneficial to improve sports performance, when accompanied by good exercise habits, as well as a healthy and balanced diet.
